Description

Our chef Prisca is willing to share with you an exotic moment in the heart of a distillery located in the town of Rivière-Pilote. In a well equipped outdoor kitchen, right in the middle of the typical Creole garden of the historic house, let’s cook together!

Make a full menu (appetizer, main dish and dessert) and enjoy it under the shade by the small Creole house. Taste local house rums and cocktails to warm up the atmosphere.

Our chef gives you her recipes and cooking tips, tells you local tales for children and much more. Learn how to make delicious dishes such as Caribbean appetizers, typical “accras” cod fritters and “féroce” appetizers, local “colombo”, “sauce-chien” dressing, “blanc-mangé” coconut custard, tartare of seasonal fruit, pies and crumbles… But also a conch gratin, coconut marinated fish, local tea and many other seasonal flavors! Hmm, so many local flavors for you to discover !

Extras:

A visit of the distillery is included ! You will enjoy the little train (“petit train”) of La Mauny in order to discover this amazing industry.
It is indeed the last one still operating in the southern part of the island. Authenticity is the company motto !

Discover the town of Rivière-Pilote!
You might want to go for a digestive walk after your Creole lunch. Take this opportunity to discover the town of Rivière-Pilote. It is definitely worth a visit ! Its church, its colorful cemetery and its alleys with special names reminding of its rich history; to sum up : Rivière-Pilote has a particular soul that we suggest you discover.

And hop, enjoy the sunset over the nearby beach of Anse Figuier!
Only 5 km away, the beach awaits you. Warm sand and blue sea… A real postcard. Do not forget your swimsuit!

This was one of our favourite activities we booked in Martinique. We were supposed to have another person in our group, but they never showed, so it was just friend, Prisca, and myself. The workshop was conducted in French ☺, and Prisca really made us feel welcomed in learning about food and culture in Martinique. With Prisca guiding us through some traditional family recipes, we made a 3 course meal that included Accras, Colombo Chicken with Basmati rice and vegetables, and a panacotta-type dessert served with nut caramel candies and tea. It was a very hands-on experience that we very much enjoyed. After the workshop, we ate our meal and then had a tour of the Rum Distillery (La Mauny). We were very grateful in trying some very authentic, homemade creole dishes. Merci beaucoup à Prisca!

This class was the highlight of our trip to Martinique. Prisca is a delightful, entrepreneurial young woman who bases her recipes on the foods that are native to Martinique. She taught us “grandmother’s” techniques throughout the class. She was gracious, adaptable and fun to spend time with.

The kitchen is outdoors and atop a small hill at the location of the distillery. It is very private feeling and there was a delightful breeze the entire time we were there. When we learned that we were to make Colombo Chicken, we begged her for a different recipe! (Our experience with Colombo Chicken in restaurants had not been very good, so we really wanted to try something else.) So, she introduced us to a dish that is a favorite of her children, sugar cane chicken. Oh my, yummy!

We also made accras, which were the best I had the entire time on the island. You don’t need to use just salted cod when making accras! You can use shrimp or crab, so I am looking forward to trying them closer to summer. And, she served the accras with the BEST planteur punch I have ever tasted…Prisca’s secret recipe!

I urge you to sign up for Prisca’s class! You will spend a delightful 3 hours and go home having learned something unique about the culture and the island of Martinique.

This cooking class was amazing! My fiancé and I learned so much and chef Prisca could not have been more welcoming, friendly and informative. She made us feel very comfortable and answered all of our many questions and the outdoor setting was gorgeous although a little tricky to find at first. It was so great to learn how to cook food from a culture that neither of us were very familiar with. It was easily the best meal we had while on the island and we will cherish our memories and recipes from the class for years to come!

We had a wonderful cooking class with Prisca Morjon. The setting on La Mauny was beautiful and Prisca is a delightful instructor. There were only 2 of us in our class and we learned a lot. She gave us a great introduction to Martinique creole cuisine. We prepared several dishes including Accras and Poulet Columbo. We had a lovely lunch after class and then a tour of the rum distillery. We definitely plan on taking another class on our next trip to Martinique. I highly recommend this tour.

An intimate group of four – just the right size! Chef Prisca led us through preparation and eating! of a full Creole meal. She’s very engaging and knowledgeable – makes everyone feel comfortable and was happy to answer all our questions. No worries if you’re an English speaker. Prisca shares her recipes and blog at the end of the course. So much fun working in an outdoor kitchen!

Prisca is a wonderfully engaging person and a top-notch cook who also speaks English very well. She was able to adapt a recipe on the fly for our lactose-intolerant friend and it was delicious. The whole process is very accessible and fun and touches on the cultural and social history of the island. She was very patient at answering our innumerable questions, and the rum drinks paired nicely with the courses 🙂 The setting is cool and shaded, and she supplies everything – just show up ready to chop, learn, cook, drink, and eat! I would do this again, that’s how much we loved it.
